SkateSafe

The San Diego Figure Skating Club (SDFSC) strives to provide a safe environment for its members and to protect the opportunity of its members to participate in the sport in an atmosphere that is free of harassment and abusive practices. U.S. Figure Skating and SDFSC will not tolerate or condone any form of harassment or abuse of any of its members including but not limited to, athletes, coaches, officials, directors, employees, parents/guardians, and volunteers or any other persons while they are participating in or preparing for a figure skating activity or event conducted under the auspices of U.S. Figure Skating.

U.S. Figure Skating SkateSafe program is mandated for all member clubs and is compliant with the U.S. Center for SafeSport which provides accountability and encouragement to take the right steps ensuring that talented athletes, coaches, and members of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) are protected and empowered.

Your membership with SDFSC will NOT be in good standing unless you:

  • Abide by the By-Laws and Regulations of the SDFSC.
  • Pay necessary dues, registrations, and other fees in a timely manner.
  • Comply with U.S. Figure Skating SkateSafe Handbook requirements as well as the SDFSC SafeSport Policy.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The standard Code of Conduct forms (Skater, Parent, Coach, and Member) have been moved into the membership system.  This will help get the correct form signed and immediate compliance achieved.
  • If your skater is under the age of 18, their parent/guardian will be asked to sign for the Skater and review with it their skater.  Additionally, the Parent Code of Contact form will also be presented for signature.
  • Parent memberships will be prompted to sign the Member Code of Conduct.
  • Team Managers, Chaparonnes, and Board Members will still use the webforms on this website to be in compliance.
  • Roles that require SafeSport training (listed below) must be refreshed annually.  NCSI Background Check good for two years (includes automatic check after 12 months).  Access to SafeSport training (free), and Background Check ($30) can be found in the U.S. Figure Skating Member Area.

Certain roles that interact with underage members frequently will be required to complete free online SafeSport training and have a National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) Background check.  When required, go to the U.S. Figure Skating Members area and click on the SkateSafe icon.  This provides free access to SafeSport training, reduced cost NCSI background check, and ensures U.S. Figure Skating status is properly updated on compliance.  ALL SDFSC members are encouraged to take the FREE online SafeSport training.  For those volunteers without a U.S. Figure Skating Membership Account click “Non-Member? Create Account” link and once in the system click the U.S. Figure Skating SkateSafe icon.
